Role overview:

Are you an experienced medical writer and reviewer with a proven track record of managing people and client interactions? Can you:

  • Review and edit content that is discoverable, ABPI compliant, and easy for busy healthcare professionals to consume?

  • Ensure that content produced supports deeper engagement and behaviour change?

  • Support challenging client relationships to ensure optimal outcomes for your client, your team and Medthority’s HCP users?

  • Plan resources, included freelancers, to ensure content is delivered on time and within budget, while preserving your team’s work–life balance?

  • Oversee a team of in-house and freelance writers, providing mentoring, feedback and support

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee other medical writers and work closely with the rest of the editorial team, and teams across IQVIA, to understand rapidly changing business opportunities, support winning proposals for new content on Medthority, and ensure that the published content meets the requirements of accepted proposals, including ABPI compliance

  • Review the work of other medical writers, ensuring it is medically accurate, engaging, compliant and correctly pitched for an HCP audience, providing feedback as necessary to support writing development

  • Participate in client-facing meetings arranged by our commercial team, when new or renewed business is likely, to understand business priorities and medical issues, add ideas for meeting these needs, and demonstrate scientific credibility.

  • Support client-facing meetings to discuss challenges and solutions in ongoing projects

  • Manage your own workload and output across multiple proposals, in collaboration with multiple commercial and sales teams and overseeing workload of direct reports, bringing in additional resources as necessary

  • Innovate with colleagues to increase the scope and value of content on Medthority

  • Help to advance the editorial team regarding its workflows, processes, standards, etc, and mentoring reports, directing their training and advancement as medical writers

Qualifications and skills:

  • UK citizen or resident with right to work in the UK

  • BSc or higher in biomedical science; substantial experience in the pharmaceutical or medical communications industry may be considered in place of degree

  • Experience in medical communications, journalism, strategy, consulting, medical affairs or related work in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Line manager experience overseeing medical writers, either in-house or remotely

  • Client-facing experience, with demonstrated ability to navigate challenging relationships

  • Experience with grants and proposals a plus

  • Well-developed scientific communications skills with the ability to edit and adapt content utilising a variety of styles and outputs

  • Ability to pick up on new therapy areas quickly and to work across multiple projects

  • Solid understanding of the drug development process and the relevant regulations that influence communicating with healthcare professionals and the public

  • Ability to action received feedback and ensure high standards are consistently maintained through the content development process

  • A desire to provide creative solutions to content challenges

  • Strong project and time management skills

  • A flexible, proactive approach with the ability to multi-task, adapt quickly to change, work under pressure and to tight deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently as part of a geographically dispersed team
